GLASS MARTE SUPPORTS SPANISH ARTIST

Glas Marte maintains a close relationship to art and culture. When the cultural department of the state of Vorarlberg and the Kunsthaus Bregenz asked us, whether we would support the Spanish artist Ainara Elgoibar in the implementation of her project, CEO Martin Feigl personally took the time to help with her art.

A Different Take on Design

Ainara Elgoibar works with gold-shimmering solar control glass, which is used in modern architecture. The artist produces miniature models of some of these buildings and films the process of creating the glass parts used – from acceptance of the order to production. „I want to look at modern design from a different angle. By focusing on the production, the mechanical creation of a work of art and the IT processes in the background, one gets a completely different approach to the end product and understands the connections“, says Ainara Elgoibar, who was previously active in production herself.

Glas Marte invited the artist, guided her through the factory and processed a solar control glass she had selected – all of which was captured by the artist’s camera. In close-up, she filmed the machine-controlled cutting and the subsequent manual work, with which the glass is fragmented into the desired parts. Ainara Elgoibar has already documented a similar process in Spain. „The company had a completely different, more timid approach to glass as a material. At Glas Marte, one immediately senses that it is a family business, where the managing director knows his product inside out, is convinced of the performance of his employees and is happy to convey it outside.“

Cultural Exchange

Since 2002, the cultural department of the state has regularly focused on cultural policy in order to internationalize Vorarlberg art and to promote the networking of local artists abroad. For some years, there has been an artist exchange program. While the Vorarlbergers Eva Maria Kees and Bernhard Garnicnig are currently working in Spain and Claudia Larcher in Lithuania, Ainara Elgoibar and Manuel Casellas spent the last weeks in Bregenz. The gallery Lisi Hämmerle presents a part of the results of this scholarship stay – including the film about Glas Marte. „We are proud to support international artists,“ says Martin Feigl, looking forward to the exhibition opening.
